About My Brother’s Keeper
My Brother’s Keeper is a South African telenovela that premiered on Mzansi Magic in October 2023. Produced by Rhythm World, the series is a family drama centered on a bitter succession battle within the affluent Shabalala family. The plot revolves around Nqubeko, the ambitious love child of the family patriarch Mshengu. Feeling sidelined and yearning for his father’s validation, Nqubeko creates a power struggle by going after his brother Khwezi’s widow, Fakazile. This violates the sacred Zulu tradition of “ukungena,” where a man marries his brother’s widow to protect the family. His actions pit him against his half-brothers and threaten to destroy the entire family empire.
